China's top political advisory body pledges to continue reforms

BEIJING - China's top political advisory body, the CPPCC, concluded its annual session on Wednesday with pledges to deepen reforms, push forward ties across the Taiwan Strait, and strengthen social harmony in the wake of the Kunming train attack which left 29 civilians dead.

China had taken great steps to open and modernise, and the country's reforms have now entered a critical stage and a "deep water zone", said the CPPCC, according to official news agency Xinhua.

Bread and butter issues were at the top of the agenda with the session hearing about 1,500 proposals to improve people's well-being and close to 1,000 proposals on the healthy and sustainable development of the economy.
