Singaporean man dies in car crash near Perth

PERTH • A Singaporean man behind the wheel of a grey Holden sports utility vehicle with his family on board died after colliding with another vehicle on a scenic coastal road north of Perth.

The man, who was not named, was driving along the Indian Ocean Drive south of Lancelin town when his vehicle crashed head-on with a Mitsubishi four-wheel-drive towing a caravan going in the opposite direction, the media in Australia reported. The accident happened at around 12.40pm on Monday.

Police said the Holden driver died at the scene. His partner and two children, along with the driver of the other vehicle, were taken to the Joondalup Hospital, according to The West Australian. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told The Straits Times yesterday that it has expressed its condolences to the family of the Singaporean who died in the tragic traffic accident.

"The Singapore High Commission in Canberra has sent a consular officer to Perth to provide the necessary assistance to the family and their next-of-kin during this difficult time," said the spokesman.
