While some Singaporeans living in New South Wales have opted to stay indoors as bush fires sweep across the area, 22-year-old Mark Yeong has chosen to go into the eye of the firestorms around Sydney as a volunteer firefighter.

The University of Sydney student has been doing this about three times a week since the end of September, while juggling a part-time job.
