Australia's most populous state, New South Wales, is being urged to curb students' access to mobile phones after schools that imposed phone bans reported improved learning results and better communication between students and teachers.
Phones are barred in all primary schools - for pupils up to about age 12 - but high schools in the state can choose how to regulate phone use. Some have imposed bans or restricted use, but others have limited rules.
