Ong Ye Kung in Australia till Thursday

The Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) and Second Minister for Defence, Mr Ong Ye Kung, will visit Australia from today to Thursday.

Mr Ong will visit SAF troops training in Exercise Wallaby 2017 at the Shoalwater Bay Training Area in Queensland, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said yesterday.

His visit is at the invitation of Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop.

He will also visit Canberra and Sydney to meet Australian leaders, including Ms Bishop and Minister for Defence Marise Payne, Mindef said in a statement.

The minister will also visit the Australian War Memorial, the Australian National University in Canberra, and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation's digital and data innovation group Data61 in Sydney.

His itinerary also includes a visit to the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland, where he will receive a briefing from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority on the impact of climate change on the Great Barrier Reef and Australia's mitigation efforts, said the Mindef statement.
