Minister Ong Ye Kung to visit Australia at the invitation of Foreign Minister Julie Bishop

SINGAPORE - Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) and Second Minister for Defence Ong Ye Kung will visit Australia from Oct 7-12 at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop.

Mr Ong will visit Singapore Armed Forces troops training in Exercise Wallaby 2017 at the Shoalwater Bay Training Area in Queensland, the Ministry of Defence said on Friday (Oct 6).

He will also visit Canberra and Sydney to meet Australian leaders, including Ms Bishop and Minister for Defence Marise Payne, Mindef said in a statement.

The minister will also visit the Australian War Memorial, the Australian National University in Canberra, and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation's digital and data innovation group Data61 in Sydney.

His itinerary also includes a visit to the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland where he will receive a briefing from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority on the impact of climate change on the Great Barrier Reef and Australia's mitigation efforts, said the Mindef statement.
