In a widely mocked move just days after becoming Australian Prime Minister, Mr Scott Morrison gave each of his Cabinet members a lapel pin with the national flag, saying he had worn one for years as a reminder of "whose side I'm on".

"I'm on the side of the Australian people," he declared.
