Australia is a large car-driving nation, yet the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) has remained surprisingly low.

But this has not been due to a lack of consumer demand. In 2022, for instance, Hyundai released a new batch of EVs in Australia that sold out in 6½ minutes. About 18,000 customers registered interest in the 109 cars.
