China allows transit flights through Taiwan

TAIPEI • China will allow transit stops in Taiwan for flights from three Chinese cities, China's Taiwan Affairs Office said yesterday, allowing people from the mainland to travel on from the island for the first time. Passengers flying from Nanchang, Kunming and Chongqing will be allowed to transit through Taiwan's main airport.


India urges action against airbase attack

NEW DELHI • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged his Pakistani counterpart yesterday to take "firm and immediate action" against those behind an attack on an Indian air force base that left seven soldiers dead.

New Delhi said Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had given assurances that his government would take "prompt and decisive action".
