PESHAWAR (Pakistan) • Gunmen have shot dead a Pakistani TV journalist in the north-western Swat valley, police said. Mr Haroon Khan, who was a stringer for the local Mashriq Television channel, was standing outside his house when he was attacked on Thursday.


KL forex losses: King receives report

KUALA LUMPUR • A Royal Commission of Inquiry into a foreign exchange trading scandal in the 1990s presented its 400-page report to the Malaysian King yesterday.

The commission was set up to probe forex trading losses of RM31.5 billion between 1985 and 1993, during the administration of then Premier Mahathir Mohamad, reported the New Straits Times.

Myanmar soldiers probed over Rohingya

YANGON • Myanmar's military has launched an internal probe into the conduct of soldiers during a counter-offensive that has sent more than half a million Rohingya Muslims fleeing to Bangladesh, many saying they witnessed killings, rape and arson by troops.

A committee led by Lieutenant-General Aye Win has begun an investigation into the behaviour of military personnel, the office of the commander-in-chief said yesterday.
