Nepal signs fuel deal with China

KATHMANDU • Nepal signed its first fuel agreement with China yesterday, for Beijing to supply petrol to ease a critical shortage after protests blocked imports from sole supplier India, an official said.

The Financial Times reported on Tuesday that China could supply 1.3 million litres of fuel to Nepal.

Germany urges Afghan refugees to stay home

BERLIN • German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said yesterday that the rising number of Afghan asylum seekers was unacceptable, and urged them to stay home and rebuild their country.

"Afghanistan is in the second place of (asylum seekers') origin countries... that is unacceptable. We are in agreement with the Afghan government that we don't want that," he said.
