Malaysian, 60, charged with maid's murder

KUALA LUMPUR • Malaysian prosecutors yesterday charged a 60-year-old woman with murdering an Indonesian domestic helper who was found with bruises on her face and died from her injuries, state news agency Bernama said.

Ms Adelina Lisao, 28, was rescued on Feb 10 from her employer's home in Penang after neighbours reported that she had been forced to sleep next to a dog in a covered car parking area attached to the house.

She died the next day in hospital.

Bomb blast in Myanmar kills two, injures 22

YANGON • A bomb blast killed two bank employees and injured 22 other people in Myanmar's north-eastern city of Lashio yesterday, the government and the military said.

Police said an investigation was under way but would not elaborate on whether there were any suspects in the attack.

Lashio is in Myanmar's restive Shan State, where several ethnic insurgent groups are fighting the Myanmar military.

Smog hits parts of northern China

BEIJING • Moderate to heavy smog has begun to settle on parts of northern China due to falling winds and rising humidity.

Affected regions include the provinces of Hebei, Henan, Shandong and Shanxi, according to the National Meteorological Centre.

The smog will lift or dissipate from today to Saturday under the influences of cold air and rain, but more smog is expected to appear from Sunday to Monday.
