Court extends Marcos' burial deliberations

MANILA • The Philippine Supreme Court said yesterday it has extended the order on the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the heroes' cemetery to Nov 8. A court spokesman told reporters that the high court will continue its deliberations on whether or not Marcos deserves a space in the cemetery reserved for revered soldiers and past Philippine leaders.

Dhaka fingers terror financing suspects

DHAKA • Bangladeshi police said yesterday that they had identified three people as the main financial providers for an attack on a cafe in which 22 people were killed, mostly foreigners, and said one had left to join the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Police identified the man as a doctor who left Bangladesh with his family for Syria.

Typhoon lashes Hainan, forcing mass evacuation

BEIJING • Typhoon Sarika lashed China's southern resort island of Hainan yesterday, with torrential rain and winds of up to 162kmh, forcing the authorities to evacuate almost half a million people and halt transport services.
