RANGPUR • Five Islamist extremists who murdered Japanese farmer Kunio Hoshi in a drive-by shooting in October 2015 were sentenced to death by a Bangladeshi court yesterday.

Clashes in Shan state: 160 killed in 3 months

NAYPYIDAW • At least 160 people have died in three months of clashes between the military and ethnic armed groups in Myanmar's Shan state, a senior army official said yesterday. More than 20,000 people have been displaced since fighting erupted near the border with China in late November.

More suspected debris from missing MH370

KUALA LUMPUR • Two more pieces of debris, suspected to be from Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which went missing in 2014, have been found, Malaysia's Transport Minister said yesterday.

Malaysia has arrangements with African nations along the Indian Ocean to recover any plane debris that washes up on their shores.
