Former Singapore Swimming Association coaching director John Dempsey once called Quah Ting Wen "the most talented 11-year-old" he had ever seen. Her breakout meet was the 2009 SEA Games where she won five golds. Her career suffered in 2011 when she broke her left forearm while surfing in the US, forcing her to miss the 2012 Olympics.
