SINGAPORE - To promote healthier eating, supermarket chain FairPrice is offering shoppers a 2 per cent discount on fruits and vegetables every Wednesday at all of its 143 outlets.

This promotion will last till the end of the year and is estimated to cost FairPrice $360,000 in all.

The supermarket chain said it has been seeing demand for fruits and vegetables rise over the years, with a 10 to 15 per cent increase in sales year on year since 2012.

In all, FairPrice has over 2,800 varieties, brands and pack sizes of fresh fruits and vegetables, including its house brand Pasar and Pasar Organic.

In a press statement on Tuesday (Oct3), FairPrice said this promotion fits into the national drive towards a healthier lifestyle.

In August, FairPrice offered discounts of at least 10 per cent on eight healthier rice products after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spent a third of his National Day Rally speech on the topic of healthier options.

Sheng Siong followed suit with similar discounts on healthier rice a day later.
