Veteran Egyptian journalist dies at 92

CAIRO • Veteran Egyptian journalist Mohamed Hassanein Heikal, one of the Arab world's most prominent political commentators and a former adviser to president Gamal Abdel Nasser, died yesterday at age 92, state media reported. He served as editor-in-chief of state-owned daily Al-Ahram from 1957 to 1974.

Junior ally quits Ukraine coalition

KIEV • A junior ally in Ukraine's Western-backed coalition quit yesterday, spelling more trouble for Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk's government just a day after he survived a no-confidence vote in Parliament. The exit of the Fatherland faction, led by former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, again raises the prospect of early elections.
