NEW YORK • A Rolex watch that once belonged to Paul Newman became the most expensive wristwatch sold at auction, fetching US$17.8 million (S$24.4 million) on Thursday in New York. Newman got his watch made in 1968, as a gift from his wife, actress Joanne Woodward.

US House approves new sanctions on Iran

WASHINGTON • The US House of Representatives voted nearly unanimously for new sanctions on Iran's ballistic missile programme on Thursday.

The vote was 423 to two, part of an effort to clamp down on Teheran without immediately moving to undermine a global nuclear pact.

Belgium relaunches probe into 1980s killings

BRUSSELS • Police divers searched a canal in Brussels on Thursday as officers relaunched an investigation into a baffling series of murders that has gripped the country for over 30 years.

Known as the Brabant Killers, assailants killed 28 shoppers and wounded hundreds more in attacks on supermarkets and hostels during a string of robberies between 1982 and 1985.
