France postpones Middle East peace meet

PARIS • France will postpone a proposed Middle East peace conference in Paris to next month, Voice of Palestine radio reported yesterday, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refusing to participate and US attendance in doubt. France has been trying to persuade Mr Netanyahu to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the French capital to try to revive moribund peace talks between the two sides.

Crimean treasures must be returned to Ukraine

AMSTERDAM • A priceless collection of gold artefacts from Crimea that was on loan to a Dutch museum when Russia occupied the peninsula must be returned to Ukraine and not the museums that originally held it, a Dutch court ruled on Wednesday. Kiev and the four museums have been wrangling over the fate of the archaeological treasures - including pots, gold leaf and other ancient objects - ever since Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

Uber to test self-driving cars in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO • Uber said yesterday that it would extend its testing of autonomous vehicles to San Francisco, the second city in its autonomous ride-sharing project. The move comes three months after Uber began testing self-driving cars to move people in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
