Egypt blocks several media websites

CAIRO • Egypt has blocked several media websites including those belonging to the Qatari Al-Jazeera news channel and a Turkey-based opposition television station, a security official said.

It has accused Al-Jazeera of supporting the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood movement it blames for violence after the military ousted them from power in 2013.


Macron ally faces heat over property deal

PARIS • One of French President Emmanuel Macron's closest allies was accused of wrongdoing, as a new law is being prepared to clean up politics.

Mr Richard Ferrand, a crucial early supporter of Mr Macron and a senior minister in his first government, was revealed to have benefited from a property deal while he ran a public health insurance fund.


Private company enters space race

WELLINGTON • A private New Zealand-based company joined the exclusive space race club yesterday, with the successful launch of a Rocket Lab test craft named Electron.

The rocket blasted off from the company's facility at Mahia, on the east coast of the North Island. It was the world's first successful launch from a private site.
