US President Barack Obama 'confident' in TPP trade deal

US President Barack Obama said Tuesday that he was confident he could make a case for the ambitious TPP Pacific free-trade deal as he began pressing for its ratification by Congress.

A day after 12 countries reached agreement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership following gruelling Atlanta negotiations, Mr Obama told agriculture and business leaders that the deal is good for them.

Although the details of the agreement will not likely be made public for weeks, congressional leaders have already expressed reservations over the TPP deal, which would fashion the world's largest free-trade zone "made for the 21st century".

Oregon killer's mother knew of son's fascination with guns

The mother of the man behind the mass killing in Oregon knew of her son's fascination with guns and appears to have encouraged it, according to online postings over a decade.

The New York Times said Laurel Harper, a nurse, stockpiled weapons in the apartment she shared with her son and wrote in an online message that both had struggled with Asperger's syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder.

According to the Times, she indicated in an online forum that her son had a wide knowledge of firearms and that she kept loaded guns in her home, including a Glock handgun and two semi-automatic rifles.

"No one will be 'dropping' by my house uninvited without acknowledgement," she wrote, according to the Times.

Microsoft adds new full-fledged hybrid computer to its Surface lineup

Microsoft unveiled its new Surface Book hybrid laptop at an event in New York on Tuesday, marking the first time that the software company is launching a full-fledged laptop.

Touted as the "ultimate laptop" by Microsoft Surface head Panos Panay, the 13.5-inch Windows 10 machine is the newest addition to Microsoft's Surface family of hybrid devices.

Microsoft claims that the Surface Book is up to 50 per cent faster than the Apple MacBook Pro, thanks to its Nvidia graphics chip. It is touted to offer 12 hours of battery life, and runs on the latest Intel Core i5 and i7 Skylake processors.

Rugby: Romania complete historic record fightback to stun Canada in World Cup

Florin Vlaicu nervelessly slotted a penalty three minutes from time to lift Romania to the biggest comeback win in Rugby World Cup history with a 17-15 Pool D victory over Canada on Tuesday.

The Oaks trailed 15-0 early in the second half after Canada had scored tries either side of the break through wingers DTH Van Der Merwe - his fourth in as many matches at the World Cup - and Jeff Hassler.

Romania, however, made the most of their pronounced forward superiority and stormed back with converted scores from captain and number eight Mihai Macovei in the 53rd and 74th minutes to get within a point.
