Gunman arrested, hostages freed at British bowling alley

British police arrested a gunman on Sunday (Oct 22) and freed two hostages after a near five-hour stand-off at a bowling alley.

The arrest at Bermuda Park leisure park in Nuneaton, central England, came after police evacuated the area on being alerted to the gunman at around 2.30pm (9.30pm Singapore time).

"We are pleased that we were able to bring this incident to a peaceful resolution and that there were no injuries," said Alex Franklin-Smith from Warwickshire Police.

Rex Tillerson woos Gulf allies in push to undercut Iran

Top US diplomat Rex Tillerson pursued efforts to curb Tehran's influence in talks with his country's Gulf allies Sunday (Oct 22), demanding that Iran pare down its involvement in Iraq as the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria draws to a close.

Tillerson's visit to the Gulf, his third as secretary of state, also aims at persuading Qatar and a rival Saudi led-alliance to open the door to dialogue - a goal he said had come to a deadlock on Sunday.

But it is the question of Iranian influence in the region - including in Iraq and Qatar - that is at the centre of his visit to Riyadh and Doha, just weeks after US President Donald Trump refused to certify the Iran nuclear deal and declared an aggressive new strategy against Tehran.

Travel plea for conjoined twins in blockaded Gaza

Conjoined twins born in Gaza on Sunday (Oct 22) need to leave the blockaded Palestinian enclave for treatment crucial to their survival, their doctor and a family member said.

"A woman gave birth this morning to Siamese twins joined at the stomach and pelvis," Allam Abu Hamda, head of the neonatal unit at Gaza's Shifa Hospital, told AFP.

Abu Hamda said the girls' complicated condition "cannot be dealt with in the Gaza Strip, so we hope they will be transferred abroad for a separation."

Tottenham Hotspur brutally exposed Liverpool's defensive frailties as Harry Kane plundered two more goals in his side's 4-1 Premier League romp at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (Oct 22).

In front of 80,000 fans, the biggest ever Premier League attendance, Kane took his league tally to eight for the season with the first and fourth goals in a clinical Spurs display.

Formula One: Hamilton wins US Grand Prix, on verge of 4th world title

Lewis Hamilton moved a step closer to his fourth world championship on Sunday (Oct 22) when he won the United States Grand Prix, coming home ahead of his nearest title rival Sebastian Vettel.

The 32-year-old Briton, who started from a record 72nd pole position, recovered after losing his advantage at the start to regain the lead and steer his Mercedes to his ninth win this year, his fifth in Texas and the 62nd of his career.

Four-time champion Vettel came home second for Ferrari and with three races remaining trails Hamilton by 66 points in the drivers' title race.
