Putin in China for talks with Xi

Russian President Vladimir Putin begins a state visit to China today for talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

Cooperation in transportation and energy industries are likely to top their agenda, as Beijing is pressing ahead with the "One Belt, One Road" programme to improve connectivity in Eurasia; while Moscow needs help to counter the declining oil prices over the past two years.

Talk on changing job landscape

Acting Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) Ong Ye Kung will speak about the changing job landscape and higher education at The Straits Times Education Forum 2016 today.

Mr Ong will also join a panel discussion with Singapore Management University president Arnoud De Meyer and ST senior education correspondent Sandra Davie at the forum.

First annual meeting of AIIB

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is holding its first annual meeting in Beijing today. AIIB was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping two years ago and began operations in January. It counts 57 founding member countries and US$100 billion (S$134 billion) in committed capital. South Korean Finance Minister Yoo Il Ho will deliver the keynote speech at the meeting about the role and future of the China-led development bank.
