Najib faces by-election tests

Malaysia will hold two parliamentary by-elections today that are seen as a key barometer of support for Prime Minister Najib Razak and his Barisan Nasional coalition. Datuk Seri Najib has urged the electorate in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar not to be deceived by "the lies and wicked political games of the opposition".


Resources for Chinese teachers

The Singapore Centre for Chinese Language has developed a book with teaching resources for lessons about festivals celebrated in Singapore, such as Deepavali and Christmas.

The centre will unveil some of these teaching plans, specifically designed for local pre-school Chinese language teachers, at an event today.


Release of China's house price index

China is expected to release its house price index for May today, a week after official data showed tighter policies contributed to the slowest growth in new home sales last month.

Average prices of new homes in 70 Chinese cities increased by 6.2 per cent year on year in April, from 4.9 per cent in March. It was the seventh straight month of gain and the fastest rise since April 2014.
