Awards for cyber defenders

The awards ceremony for the Cyber Defenders Discovery Camp will be held this afternoon at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. A record 400 students took part in this year's camp, organised by the Defence Science and Technology Agency and supported by the Ministry of Defence. The four-day camp exposed students to the latest cyber-defence skills and techniques as well as the work of professional cyber defenders.


US consumer spending data

United States consumer spending data for last month, compiled by survey company Gallup, will be released later today.

Economists hope the numbers, which have stayed hardy in recent months, will give markets some cheer after woefully weak labour data depressed investor sentiment last week.

US consumer spending recorded its biggest increase in more than six years in April as households stepped up car purchases.


US, China to discuss S. China Sea issues

China's State Councillor Yang Jiechi and US Secretary of State John Kerry will discuss the South China Sea dispute at an annual dialogue starting today in Beijing. China said both countries will exchange "candid, in-depth views on important and sensitive issues of shared concern" during the eighth China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue. The talks will aim to enhance communication and avoid misjudgment, the Chinese authorities said.
