Opening of Downtown Line 2

The second stage of the Downtown Line will open on Sunday.

The 16.6km line runs from Bukit Panjang to Bugis, and will provide MRT access to those living along the Bukit Timah corridor.

During peak hours, trains will run at 2½- to three-minute intervals.


Release of bank lending data

Figures for Singapore's bank lending last month will be released today.

Bank loans have fallen for two months in a row, in September and October, as the slowing economy has caused businesses and consumers to cut back on borrowing and spending.


Japan's inflation, jobless figures

Japan will release data today about its inflation rate and unemployment rate for last month.

The numbers are being released just after the Japanese government approved a record budget for the new year, that counts on higher growth and tax revenue to help revive the economy and rein in huge public debt.
