US judge sentences mobster 'Whitey' Bulger to two life terms

BOSTON (Reuters) - A United States judge on Thursday sentenced mobster James "Whitey" Bulger to two consecutive life terms plus five years in prison for crimes including 11 murders while he ran Boston's Winter Hill gang in the 1970s and 1980s.

"The scope, the callousness, the depravity of your crimes are almost unfathomable," US District Judge Denise Casper told Bulger, now 84.

"Your crimes are made all the more heinous because they are all about money."
