WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States on Tuesday dismissed as "unhelpful" North Korea's warning that foreigners should consider leaving the South because a "thermo-nuclear" war on the peninsula was possible.

White House spokesman Jay Carney criticised Pyongyang for more "unhelpful rhetoric that serves only to escalate tensions".
