WASHINGTON - The United States Congress had some harsh words for China over the ongoing crisis in Hong Kong on Wednesday (Aug 14), with Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell tweeting: "Images of Beijing-backed forces brutalising civilians speak for themselves."

The House Foreign Affairs Committee in a statement said that "30 years after the Chinese Communist Party's... brutal massacre of peaceful democratic protesters in Tiananmen Square, we are concerned that China would consider again brutally putting down peaceful protests".
