Clinton to accept party's nomination

Mrs Hillary Clinton will accept her party's formal nomination to run for the presidency at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia today, having made history as the first woman to become the nominee of a major US political party. She is scheduled to make a speech that will bring down the curtain on the four-day party convention.


Launch of expanded childcare centre

Muslim voluntary welfare organisation Perdaus has expanded its existing childcare centre in Jurong East to meet rising demand. Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu will be the guest of honour at the launch of the centre today. The newly renovated centre will also serve a wider age group of children.


Report card for US economy

The US Commerce Department will release an advanced report on the US economy, which is expected to show growth regaining speed after faltering in the first quarter. Economists have calculated that the gross domestic product increased at a 2.6 per cent annualised rate, boosted by robust consumer spending.

The economy grew at a 1.1 per cent pace in the first quarter.
