US Electoral College to meet today

The 538-member Electoral College will gather today at 50 state capitols to ratify the 2016 United States presidential election results, by casting ballots to formally confirm Mr Donald Trump as president.

Festive food boxes for the needy

Singapore Red Cross staff and volunteers will be delivering festive food boxes and Christmas presents to a total of 94 disadvantaged families today. These may be grandparent-headed households, single-parent families and the working poor. Some 50 families with children will also get gifts collected in the UberSleigh campaign, where Uber drivers collect toys and books for donation.

Fed chief to speak on US job situation

US Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen will speak on the state of the United States job market today. This will be her first remarks since the Fed Open Market Committee voted last Wednesday to raise a key interest rate by a quarter percentage point. Some of her more hawkish policymakers in the Fed have warned that the central bank may have to raise rates more than three times next year.
