A 24-year-old Nevada woman has died after reportedly freezing to death inside a cryotherapy chamber.

Chelsea Ake-Salvacion was trapped in a chamber for at least 10 hours at Rejuvenice, a clinic that offers cryotherapy services, New York Times reported.

The therapy promises clients numerous health benefits such as slowing aging, reducing inflammation, weight loss and strengthening the immune system. Temperatures in the chamber can be as low as minus 150 degrees Celsius.

According to a police report, Ake used the machine without assistance and likely suffocated within minutes of entering the machine. Her coworker and friend Elise Iverson, found her frozen "rock hard" body inside the machine last Tuesday.

In a statement, the owners of Rejuvenice - where Ake was a manager of the spa - said that they were "devastated by this accident", and that they were "voluntarily scrutinising each and every one of our internal procedures to ensure nothing like this ever happens again."
