KANSAS - United States Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Bernie Sanders on Saturday (March 5) won the Democratic caucus in the heartland state of Kansas, US networks projected.

Kansas was one of three states where the Democrats were holding nominating contests on Saturday in the race between frontrunner Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state and Sanders, the senator from Vermont.

The other two states where the two are doing battle are Louisiana and Nebraska, AFP reported.

Sanders had been expected to do well in Kansas and Nebraska because they have largely white populations, a demographic with which he has done well with previously.

But Clinton is expected to dominate in Louisiana, the weekend's biggest prize, because of its large African-American vote.
