Obama: Zika and government funding top agenda

US President Barack Obama meets with Republican and Democratic congressional leaders and says funding to fight Zika and to keep government open are at the top of his agenda before congress adjourns.

WASHINGTON DC (REUTERS) - President Barack Obama said after meeting congressional leaders on Monday (Sept 12) he was encouraged that Congress would be able to pass short-term spending legislation to keep the government open.

Mr Obama, who met Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan and their Democratic counterparts at the White House, said he was also hopeful about reaching agreements with Congress on funding for the Zika virus and for disaster relief in Louisiana, which suffered flooding recently.
