SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's board of supervisors on Tuesday (March 1) raised the minimum age to buy tobacco products from 18 to 21.

New York, Boston and Hawaii have enacted similar laws.

San Francisco's law also includes e-cigarettes.

The Associated Press has confirmed that the vote was unanimous and the law will take effect in June.

Critics of the law say that San Francisco has no right to supersede California State law.

It is already illegal to smoke in sports arenas and pubic parks.
