Hillary Clinton visits New York church ahead of big primary

NEW YORK, USA (Reuters) - US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton spoke to a congregation at the Grace Baptist Church in Mt Vernon on Sunday (April 17), where she said winning the New York primary was pivotal toward securing the Democratic presidential nomination.

"The New York primary will play a big role in determining who the Democratic nominee is, and I want you to know, my mission as president will be to knock down every barrier that stands in the way of any person," Mrs Clinton said.

Mrs Clinton, a former New York senator and US Secretary of State, will face off next Tuesday (April 19) with Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in New York. Polls show that Mrs Clinton is favoured to win the state, although Mr Sanders, a New York City native who is hoping for an upset win to ensure the continued viability of his campaign, has managed to narrow the gap in recent days.
