Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Toronto Mayor John Tory (right) and chief executive officer of Alphabet Eric Schmidt viewing 3D city models built by children during an event in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Tuesday. Sidewalk Labs, the urban innovation unit of Alphabet, and Waterfront Toronto plan to foster the development of a high-tech community from scratch along Lake Ontario in Canada's biggest city. The area aims to become an innovation hub for technologies that improve city life, from "green" energy systems and self-driving transit to new construction techniques that can lower housing costs, the companies said in a statement.
