VATICAN CITY (REUTERS) - Pope Francis called on Cuba to "open to the world" and for the world to open to Cuba, during a general audience at the Vatican, his first since returning from his historic trip to Cuba and the United States.
The 78-year-old pontiff thanked everyone in the two countries who gave him such a warm welcome.
But he also urged Havana and Washington to expand the renewed ties between them.
The US and Cuba restored diplomatic relations in July for the first time since 1960.
The change came after months of secret diplomacy by the pope.
But the US embargo of Cuba remains in place. It will take an act of Congress to lift that.
