Suspect in custody after shooting at US middle school

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - A suspect is in custody after a shooting at a school in the US state of New Mexico on Tuesday that wounded at least one youth, authorities and local media said.

The incident happened at Berrendo Middle School in Roswell, the local police department said on its Facebook page.

"The shooter has been apprehended," it said in a post that did not specify whether anyone was hurt.

"Parents are asked to not go to the school right now as it is on lock down mode," it said.

Fox News, citing police, reported that at least three people were injured.

Local channel KRQE, citing a hospital official, said a 14-year-old with injuries was being airlifted to a hospital.

Students were being taken to a nearby mall for pick-up by their parents.
