Strong earthquake strikes off Papua New Guinea

SYDNEY (AFP) - A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck off Papua New Guinea on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said, but there was no widespread tsunami warning issued.

The quake hit at a depth of 58km at 8.31 pm local time, 65km west of Panguna in Papua New Guinea and 642km west of the Solomon Islands.
