TONGAAT (AFP) - Emergency workers said efforts to find survivors in the rubble of a collapsed half-built mall near the South African city of Durban were suspended on Wednesday, with an unknown number of workers still trapped inside.

"The search was called off 30 minutes ago to allow city engineers to use heavy machinery to remove concrete," said Neil Powell of private emergency firm Crisis Medical.
