A picture taken on May 26, 2015 in the countryside near the southeastern town of Diffa in Niger, shows fixed dunes. Climate change has wreaked havoc in Niger, bringing floods, droughts, spikes in temperature and food shortages -- buffeting the lives and livelihoods of millions of farmers in the west African nation.

A picture taken on Aug 29, 2015 shows a boy walking past houses destroyed by a mudslide caused by the rains from tropical storm Erika in Montrouis, Haiti. Weather-related disasters have grown more frequent over the last 20 years, claiming more than 600,000 lives, the UN said on Nov 23, 2015.

A Senegalese farmer carrying her baby works in a field in Daga Birame on Oct 1, 2015. Since 2013, farmers of Daga Birame take part in a project teaching them farming practices adapted to climate changes and based on research and weather forecasting, involving the Civil Aviation and Meteorology National Agency and the Research Program on climate change, agriculture and food safety.

Residents collect fish at a drought-affected lake in Bac Ninh province, outside Hanoi, Vietnam on Oct 29, 2015. Environmental ministers of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries and China, Japan and South Korea gathered in Hanoi from Oct 26 to 30 to consider and approve an ASEAN declaration on climate change in preparation for the upcoming 2015 UN summit in Paris, local media reported.

A file photo taken on July 1, 2007 shows a colony of king penguins on Possession Island in the Crozet archipelago in the Austral seas. Warmer sea temperatures are forcing Indian Ocean king penguins to travel further for food, cutting into their breeding season researchers said on Oct 27, 2015, warning of a "serious threat" from climate change.

This photo taken on Nov 1, 2015 shows young boys releasing their pet pigeons at a temporary shelter site locally dubbed "bunkhouses" for survivors of typhoon Haiyan in Tacloban City, Leyte province, central Philippines. Two years after the super typhoon devastated the Philippines and sounded a global alarm on climate change, a massive rebuilding programme has had big successes but at least one million survivors are still without safe homes.

A man gestures near the ruins of the former sub-prefecture of the Ivorian town of Grand Lahou, situated where the Bandama River meets the Gulf of Guinea, on Oct 15, 2015. Grand Lahou is in danger of sinking under waves by a combination of climate change and other factors, with some predicting the town will be completely under water within 10 years unless action is taken.

Bunches of grapes hang from the vine in a vineyard in Alsace, before their harvest in Orschwihr, France, in this Sept 26, 2015 file photo. Good news for wine drinkers: a leading international body said grape vines are a hardy little number and can survive climate change, at least over the medium term. Earlier harvesting, changes in grape varieties and new wine-making processes have already helped counter the impact of the harsher weather hitting vineyards across the globe, the head of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) said.

Smoke is seen emitting from a funnel from a thermal power plant on a hazy day on the outskirts of Beijing, China, on Nov 27, 2015. A deepening slowdown in China could derail its commitments on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Mercator Institute for China Studies said. China, one of the world's largest emitter of CO2, has said it aims for CO2 emissions to peak before 2030 and to reduce carbon intensity by 60 to 65 per cent from 2005 levels by the same year, but has not set a quantitative emissions cap.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II plants a native Maltese tree in the gardens of the San Anton Palace, in Valletta, Malta, on Nov 28, 2015.
