Pentagon to recall most of 400,000 civilians furloughed by US govt shutdown

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Most of the estimated 400,000 civilian employees furloughed by the Defence Department (DoD) during the United States government shutdown will be asked to return to work, Pentagon chief Chuck Hagel said on Saturday.

"Today I am announcing that most DoD civilians placed on emergency furlough during the government shutdown will be asked to return to work beginning next week," he said in a statement.
