The Volcan de Fuego, or Volcano of Fire, in Alotenango, Guatemala, is one of the most active ones in the South American country. Its first eruption of the year on Wednesday generated a column of grey ash 5,500m above sea level, the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology said in a special bulletin.
