This mushroom, first discovered in the Korean Demilitarised Zone, has been internationally recognised as a new kind and was featured on the 132nd cover of the journal Mycotaxon, published on April 27. Academically named Astraeus ryoocheoninii, the mushroom was first discovered during a 1995-2000 ecological survey of the zone that separates South and North Korea.
