Murder charge filed over death of activist in Paris brawl with skinheads

PARIS (AP) - The authorities on Saturday lodged a preliminary murder charge against a man suspected of being involved in the killing of an anti-fascist activist in Paris this week.

Prosecutor Francois Molins said on Saturday that the suspect, identified only as "Esteban", and three other people have also been preliminarily charged with group violence in the brawl between far-right and anti-fascist activists that led to the death of 19-year-old Mr Clement Meric.

A fifth suspect, a woman, faced preliminary charges for complicity in group violence, Mr Molins said.

The fight erupted outside a clothing store where members of the two groups had run into each other by chance on Wednesday, Mr Molins said, citing witness accounts and testimony by the suspects during police questioning.
