SINGAPORE - Singapore "strongly condemns" the recent series of terrorist attacks across Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Tuesday (July 5).

Saudi Arabia was rocked by three suicide bombings in a single day on Monday that targeted the holy city of Medina, the US consulate in Jeddah and the Shi'ite-dominated city of Qatif. The attacks, which occurred just a day before the end of Ramadan, killed at least four security officers.

"The attack in Medina, which resulted in several deaths and injuries, was particularly heinous given that it took place near the Prophet's Mosque, which is one of the holiest sites in Islam. Such acts of violence show that terrorism knows no boundaries," the MFA's spokesman said in a statement.

"We also express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and we hope that the injured would recover soon."

MFA said it has verified the safety of most of the registered Singaporeans in Medina, adding that, so far, there were no reports of any Singaporeans affected by the attacks.

"We will continue to contact the remaining registered Singaporeans. The Singapore Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate-General in Jeddah are in contact with the local authorities. Thus far, there are no reports of any Singaporeans injured or directly affected by the attacks," it added.

The ministry also advised Singaporeans in Saudi Arabia to "exercise vigilance and follow the instructions of the local authorities". Singaporeans there are also advised to "let their family and friends know that they are safe".

Those who require consular assistance should contact the Singapore Embassy in Riyadh, the Singapore Consulate-General in Jeddah or the 24-hour Duty Office in Singapore.
