WASHINGTON (REUTERS) - A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck north-western Peru on Saturday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

The quake's epicentre was 42km south-south-west of Piura and it occurred at a depth of 12km, the USGS said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
