MOSCOW (AFP) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday told his US counterpart John Kerry that Western sanctions against Moscow over Crimea were "absolutely unacceptable" and said there would be consequences.

"The sanctions introduced by the United States and the European Union are absolutely unacceptable and will not be left without consequences," the Russian foreign ministry said Lavrov told Kerry during a phone call on Tuesday evening.

The ministry did not provide any further details about any possible retaliatory steps from Moscow.
