French troops start disarming C.Africa rebels: Army

PARIS (AFP) - French troops on Monday began disarming rebel fighters in Central African Republic, the army said in Paris, after a swell in violence that killed nearly 400 people.

As the operation got underway, there was a brief exchange of gunfire between armed men and the troops near the airport at the capital Bangui, Agence France-Presse photographers said. There was no initial indication of casualties.
